When you bring a community together, all kinds of change is possible.
That’s the thinking behind our new Community Wellbeing Network scheme which is about to see the opening of a new community garden in Northfleet.
Our Gravesham Community Network – have been volunteering their time to transform a derelict patch of land next to St Botolph’s Church in Vicarage Drive. Over the past few months, it has been given a new pond, plants, decking and more. The new-look garden opens with a party this Saturday (1pm – 6pm). There will be free food and performances by local artists.
The Gravesham Community Network volunteers were brought together by Porchlight and Cllr Peter Scollard of the No Walls Gardens community group.
There are currently has 42 members, but anyone is welcome to join. Most have been involved with the garden project whilst others are working on an art exhibition which will be unveiled in the autumn.
The garden project was supported by businesses in the area, including Walnut Hill Nurseries, Lidal, Gallagher Group Ltd, Shallow Aquatics, United Living Group and Tesco, who all donated materials and expertise to help transform the garden.
It’s hoped similar community networks can be launched around the county.
